PokerStars is a giant of the online poker world and there’s no better way to show that off than with a tournament to end all other online poker tournaments. The 2008 World Championship of Online Poker begins Friday September 5th with thousands of players set to compete for millions in prizes. And don’t expect the same old thing as last year, this year has even more events.
The phrase ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ seems to be PokerStars motto for the 2008 WCOOP which is looking more and more like the World Series of Poker. With a guarantee of $30 million, around twice as much as last year, and the awarding of a trophy in the form of a bracelet, the WCOOP is starting to resemble and rival that of the WSOP. The huge prize pool is one of the best indicators for how far the WCOOP tournament has coming since its first tournament in 2002 which offer $238,000 in prizes.
The number of events have increased year which has helped to bump up the prize pool. The 33 events will of course include the popular games of Texas Hold’em, Stud and Omaha but also HORSE, Razz, 5 Card Draw, and 2-7 Draw. Players can take part in the tournament for a total of 18 days from Sept.5-22. Every day, with exception to the 21st, will have 2 events running with the 2 day $10 million Main Event beginning that day.
If you didn’t happen to win one of the satellites for a seat in the tournament then you can buy you way in starting at $215 for a number of events or fork over $5200 to get it on the huge Main Event prize pool action.
