Barak Obama recently announced his running mate in the 2008 Presidential campaign to the eager American public. Some people have been pleased with his choice and some, like Doyle Brunson, aren’t so pleased. With the Republican Party already taking a stance against online gambling, some online poker players have been looking towards the Democratic side for hope.
The fears of Democrats pursuing measures similar to that of the Republicans were nominal when Obama won the ticket against Hillary Clinton. However, now that he has revealed his running mate in the Presidential Election is Joe Biden the online gambling community has started reexamining their risk of being shut down by a Democratic GOP.
Obama himself has repeatedly stated that he supports freedom on the internet and he’s backed that up by using the internet as a driving force in his campaign. However, very little is known about how Biden views the subject of internet usage let alone poker on the internet. This isn’t surprising considering he’s more of a foreign affairs/defense guy, thus the selection as Vice Presidential candidate.
But this much has been delved up from online records. Apparently Biden was against the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act of 1997 which passed by the Senate 90-10, but didn’t come to a vote in the House. If Biden was among that slim opposing group that could mean very good things for online poker players if the country votes Democratic.
Even Doyle Brunson, who has publicly expressed horror at Obama’s Vice President choice on his blog, has to admit that because of the gambling issues he’s most likely voting for Democrats which he has never done before.
