Satellite Tournament Strategies

Tournaments that feature the prize of a seat in a bigger tournament fall into the category of satellite tournaments.  Satellite tournaments have definitely gotten more popular online because of the lower entry fees and the prestige of some of the seats you can win and the prizes that go along with the bigger tournaments.  Among the most popular, if not the most popular, satellite tournaments are the ones that offer a seat to the World Series of Poker tournament that would cost $10,000 otherwise.

This type of tournament is typically multi table and sometimes there can be more than one player to win a seat depending on how many enter the tournament.  Satellite tournaments will attract strong and weak players alike because of what can be won.  For many the price of the big tournaments will be out of reach and that’s where the satellite tournaments come in to fill the void.

Now super satellite tournaments have emerged as well.  These tournaments act exactly the same as satellites but the prize of a super satellite is a seat in a satellite tournament.  So you’ll notice satellite tournaments are simple way to possibly increase your bankroll in poker dramatically at a low cost by working your way up one rung at a time.

Online satellite tournaments are played the same way any other multi table game is played, with the inexperienced players rising to the surface in the beginning.  As play progresses the players will get better and you’ll have to adjust your game accordingly.  As with any other tournament you need to weigh your odds first and see if the buy in is going to be worth the win as well as your actual chances of winning in a bigger tournament.
